The Literacy Lab Program (Lit Lab) is designed to provide students with differentiated reading instruction in a small guided reading group. Students will engage in reading fluency practice, comprehension strategies, and word study activities while building on skills they already possess. Students in grades K-3 needing reading intervention will also meet for additional reading instruction with a reading specialist.

To measure and monitor students' literacy skills and progress, assessments will be given at specific times throughout the school year. Benchmarking is completed at all grade levels at the end of each quarter. Acadience testing is done in August, December, and May for grades K-3 only. These assessments along with teacher observations of daily progress within a guided reading group are analyzed to make sure each student is receiving the most effective instruction.

Mileage Club is a voluntary lunch recess activity designed to keep the students active and to help them prepare for the distance run they have in the Spring. The students can run, jog, skip, gallop or walk laps around the backfield. At the completion of every lap they have their Mileage Card stamped and when they have all 20 stamps on their card (approximately 5 miles) they can turn it in for “Toe Tokens” and other small prizes. The student who turns in the most cards (minimum of 5 cards) earns a $50 gift card of their choosing.

Quail Run Elementary is proud to be a 21st Century Community Learning Center! Our school offers amazing afterschool high-quality academic intervention and enrichment activities for students along with a broad array of youth development opportunities and parent engagement at no cost. 

Our program provides opportunities for students to engage in new and exciting learning opportunities and explore their personal interests, recreational and intellectual topics that are often not available during the school day while being able to forge new relationships with friends.

What is Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC?

• After school classes and clubs offered at no cost to students. Snacks are served during this time.
• Teachers will be recommending students for academic intervention classes
• Students will be able to sign up for enrichment courses
• Classes will be offered at a variety of times and days of the week
• Some activities will require special permission slips
• Students will be registered for classes on a first come first served basis and space is limited
• Students are required to have regular attendance for all activities that they register for (our grant funding is tied to attendance)

Quail Run Student Council has a goal of promoting and developing leadership, community involvement, team building, and life skills in those students who volunteer their time and energy in school activities.

The students that make up Quail Run’s Student Council work hard to lead our school with their positive example. Any student in 4th-6th grade is able to run for an officer position, and each 3rd-6th grade class has a classroom representative.  This group of hard working students are responsible for Friday assemblies, spirit days, food drives, funding various items that benefit students, as well as acting as liaisons for Quail Run at numerous events.

Yearbook club is an organization developed to create and design the Quail Run yearbook. Students work to improve their skills and then apply them to the yearbook. Assisted by teachers, students will use an online computer program to create pages. Our main goals will be to capture the atmosphere here at Quail Run and include every student's picture in the book.
